On December 19, watch queer drama “Firebird” by Peeter Rebane!
On a 1970s military base—during the Soviet occupation of Estonia—Sergey, a young soldier, meets fighter pilot Roman. There they develop feelings that put both of them at risk of going to prison. This story was recounted by one of the participants, Sergey Fetisov, in his autobiographical book “Firebird: The Story of Roman” and was brought to the screen by @peeterthefox.
“Firebird” has screened at over 70 film festivals around the world, and won quite a few different awards.
Next week, you'll have the opportunity to watch “Firebird” at the Film Museum and discuss the movie with Peeter Rebane in person. The screening and discussion will be in English, with Estonian and Russian subtitles added to the film.
