On the day against LGBT hatred, a demonstration will be held in Tallinn in Tammsaare Park

On Friday, May 17, the organization Q-Space will celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia hatred with a demonstration in Tammsaare Park. The goals of the demonstration are to improve the visibility of LGBTQ+ people in culture and society, strengthen the community, and ensure access to queer education and queer spaces for the people of Ida-Virumaa.

IDAHOBIT is a day that reminds us that the fight for equality and acceptance is ongoing. This event is a demonstration and a celebration that hopes to strengthen solidarity and unity. Together we will raise questions about the necessity to adopt a new law on self-determination for transgender people, including queer issues on the cultural agenda for the whole society. Another pressing issue of the rally will be to raise awareness of the LGBTQ+ people living in the Ida-Virumaa region who have no access to LGBTQ+ spaces, thus leaving them isolated. "We invite everyone to join us on this day to show support for our LGBTQ community members in both Estonia and around the world," declares Gulya Sultanova, one of the founders of Q-Space.

The first International Day Against LGBT Hatred (IDAHOTB) was celebrated in 2005, and since then has been officially recognized by many countries, local authorities, and international institutions. The date also marks the World Health Organization (WHO) decision to remove homosexuality from the international classification of diseases in 1990.

Q-Space is a cultural project in Estonia dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community and human rights. As part of the project--film screenings, discussions, seminars, and other events related to LGBTQ+ topics occur monthly.

The demonstration will take place on Friday, May 17 from 17:30-18:30 in Tammsaare Park and will be held in Estonian, Russian, and English.

On the same day, Cafe Botik (Põhjala tehas, Marati 5a) will celebrate its birthday and the start of the season by offering guests great music, food, and drinks. Starting from 5:30 p.m., all families--queer or not--are invited to enjoy an evening packed with fun activities such as a quick friend-making session, a children's corner, and live performances. On-site, you can enjoy the cafe's delicacies, and admission is free until 9:00 p.m.
